Nepali film wins at Sundance 2017

SUNDANCE 2017 awards ‘Dadyaa  -The Woodpeckers of Rotha’  –  a Nepal, France co-production

Nepali short film Dadyaa-The Woodpeckers of Rotha has won the Special Jury Award for Cinematography at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, the largest independent film festival in the USA.

Pooja Gurung and Bibhusan Basnet have jointly written and directed the film. The story revolves around an elderly couple Atimaley and Devi’s life in their village, which is haunted by memories. When a dear friend leaves the village without saying goodbye, the old couple faces a dilemma: keep living with the memories or leave the village for good?

The 17-minutes long short film was screened at Kimff last year where it bagged the Best Fiction film award under Panaroma section.
