Anand Kishore’s short film ‘Disco Obu” wins Clermont-Ferrand’s Special Jury Mention

Congratulations to filmmaker Anand Kishore! 

His short film ‘Disco Obu’, his thesis film selected for the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival’s Competition section, has won the Special Jury Mention award.

What makes it even more commendable is that it won against a whopping 72 other competitive entries.  

Note: the director can be seen in the picture above on the extreme right on stage at his film’s screening.


‘Disco Obu’ is a  20 minute film about a journalist  who captures a day in the life of a former child actor turned auto rickshaw driver. Over the course of the day their relationship is tested.

‘Disco Obu’ is produced by Gayathri Cinema Enterprises. The cast comprises Amjad Prawej (as Obu), Balaji Manohar (as Mohan) and Malay Prakash (as Roy).The script and editing is also by Anand Kishore, with cinematography by Yanqiu Fei, production design Shreyom Gosh, sound design Tapas Nayakand and colourist, Balaji Gopal. The film is an  India, Singapore, United States co-production.

Chennai based Anand Kishore studied film at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts  in Singapore. Prior to his thesis film,  ‘Diso Obu’,  Kishore has made a couple of other short films.
