In the Spotlight today is the 9th Annual Burbank International Film Festival (BIFF), taking place in one of Los Angeles’ most entertainment rich neighbourhoods full of old Hollywood charm alongside modern studios and production suites. The grandeur of Burbank’s skyline is comprised of the world’s most prestigious studios and production houses which include Warner Brothers, Disney, Universal Studios, ABC, The Burbank Studios, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network to name a few.
The celebration kicks off with the highly anticipated Opening Night Ceremony with a premiere featured film and a Gala Reception and will be followed by four days of film screenings, parties and red carpet events that will culminate with a Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony on the final day of the Festival. In 2016 the festival screened over 150 films from 31 countries which included record breaking 25 world premieres – with less than ten years on the circuit BIFF has quickly established itself as an important venue for filmmakers to be discovered.
BIFF has seventeen categories that invite a wide range of mediums and genres to submit – categories include Student Films, Animated Films, Screenplays, New Media, Science Fiction/Fantasy/Horror/Thriller, Comedy, Faith-Based Films and many more along with traditional categories such as Features, Shorts, and Documentaries. BIFF also offers seminars and panels featuring industry professionals. Special guests have included writer/director Shane Black (Ironman 3, The Good Guys), writer/director Mick Garris (Masters of Horror), Screenwriter Timothy Dowling (Pixels ) among others. Celebrities and industry professionals also play crucial roles in the festival’s selection process. Guest judges have included RJ Mitte (Breaking Bad), Daniel Roebuck (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Patricia Bethune (Mad Men), writer Ben Bledsoe (Glee), and Emmy-Winning animation director Mark Kirkland (The Simpsons), and more.

In addition to premiere screenings and Red Carpet events, The Burbank International Film Festival invites film distributors to review the award-winning films helping independent filmmakers to get their film distributed. BIFF also helps introduce filmmakers to other film festivals on the circuit so that they can continue to screen their film and expand their audience reach.
