India’s ‘Sexy Durga’ wins top award in Rotterdam

“For its daring and resourceful approach in creating a mood of constant tension. The particular use of camera and acting give a sense of immediacy and momentum, while providing an insight into multi-layered power dynamics of gender, class and authority.”

‘Sexy Durga’ is the first ever Indian feature film to win an award in this competitive section, since it’s inception in 1995.

Hivos Tiger Competition, which comes with a € 40,000 cash prize divided between director and producer, was introduced in 1995 to discover, promote and distinguish emerging international film talent. International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), one of the biggest cultural events in the Netherlands, which attracts a large, diverse and adventurous audiences thanks to its wide-ranging exceptional, original, hotly debated films. It offers a high quality line-up of carefully selected fiction and documentary feature films, short films and media art.
