14th Annual DC Shorts Film Festival and Screenplay Competition, recently named one of the “Coolest Short Film Festivals” and one of the “Top 50 Festivals Worth the Entry Fee” by Moviemaker Magazine. In 2016, DC Shorts screened a whopping 131 short films from 26 countries in 18 unique showcases that played to a total audience of 9,000 people.

DC Short’s main judging criteria is story and welcomes new and established filmmakers to submit all genres and styles of films. Taking place in the heart of Washington, DC, the eleven day event is host to some of the most sophisticated audiences in the world eager to discover the next best films and filmmakers. In a city with over 70 film festivals a year, DC Shorts continues to be a dominant force for film distribution in the region and is the largest short film event on the U.S. East Coast.

DC Shorts alum Rob Rafferty (Retirement) shares, “The film festival is always getting bigger and better every year making this the most filmmaker centric film festival in the country.” The eleven day event is packed with exciting educational events and panels led by prominent instructors such as Kimberly Skyrme, CEO, Kimberly Skyrme Casting/Entertainment and Marina Martins, CEO, Pigmental Studios. Previous events have include HD & 4K Camera Production Camera Demos, Fundraising: Where To Find Money, How To Write A Film Review, AND SAG-AFTRA: Everything You Ever Wanted To Know, and more.

After programming is announced, all entrants receive a report with the review committee’s comments. DC Shorts believes that filmmakers deserve to understand why their film was selected or rejected and what that process entails.
