London’s Asian Awards pay tribute to Om Puri for ‘Outstanding Achievement to Cinema’
The Asian Awards, held on May 5th 2017 at the Park Lane Hilton, London, paid tribute to the late Om Puri, with the Outstanding Achievement in Cinema award.
Nandita Puri and her son Ishaan Puri travelled to London to accept the award on the late actor’s behalf. Amongst the other awardees were Sachin Tendulkar and Sunny Pawar (Lion). In her acceptance speech, Nandita Puri announced the institution of the Om Puri Foundation with the objective of awarding emerging talent in film and theatre in his name.
Hosted for the first time by actor Sanjeev Bhaskar, the Asian Awards ceremony was attended by London Mayor Sadiq Khan and celebrities Lindsay Lohan, Meera Syal, Ding Junhui, Richard Osman, Greg Rusedski and Bollywood stars, Varun Dhawan, Amy Jackson and Anupam Kher.
The Asian Awards launched in 2010 Paul Sagoo, entrepreneur and founder of the Lemon Group, is now one of the most influential global events celebrating Pan Asian excellence. Paul said: “The Asian Awards prides itself on honouring people who have achieved the highest levels in their craft, and I am delighted that this year we have honoured an array of talented and amazing people. I am equally happy to see the mix of pan-Asian winners in attendance and not just South Asian. All our awards went to deserving individuals that have contributed to the Asian community and continue to be an inspiration to all.”
