21st LA Shorts International Film Festival (LA Shorts Fest), an Academy and BAFTA Qualifying festival that ignites the short film market and gives emerging filmmakers from around the world a platform to display their talents. Taking place at LA Live in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, the event is set to host more than 8,000 eager moviegoers, filmmakers and entertainment professionals seeking rising stars.
Winners from LA Shorts Fest will be adorned with much more than honors and applause, all seven awarded filmmakers will automatically qualify for the Academy Awards. LA Shorts is extremely proud to have screened three films from last year’s festival that were nominated for the 2017 Academy Award. The 2016 Oscar winners in Live Action Short and Animated Short both were 2015 LA Shorts Official Selections. In past years, 44 participants have earned Academy Award nominations, with 13 filmmakers actually taking home the Oscar. Opportunities are available in the following award categories: Best of Fest, Best Foreign Film, Best Drama, Best Comedy, Best Animation, Best Experimental, and Best Documentary.

The 21st annual LA Shorts International Film Festival will be held at L.A. LIVE Regal Cinemas and the Laemmle NoHo 7 Theatres. L.A. LIVE is a sports & entertainment district in Los Angeles adjacent to Staples Center and the Los Angeles Convention Center featuring Microsoft Theater and The Novo by Microsoft, the Grammy Museum, the 14-screen Regal Cinemas L.A. LIVE, and ESPN broadcasting studios. There is plenty of fun and entertainment to seek out in between screenings and networking.
